Product Description
An early maturing variety. The plant has creeping stems with a length of 20-25″ (50-70 cm). The yellow-orange berries are small, round, have a diameter of 1/5-1/3″ (6-12 mm), a weight of 1/5-1/3 oz (5-10 g), and a sweet strawberry flavor. It is sown by seedlings in April or directly outdoors after the spring frosts in May. The berries are used fresh and dried, for making jams and drinks.
Planting instructions:
Plant seeds after your last frost. Place your seeds on top of the soil and then part of seeds cover lightly with a thin layer of soil and part seeds do not cover. Pat soil gently. Physalis seeds require light to germinate, so need to be sown on the surface of the soil. The ideal temperature for germination is 21° to 25°C (70° to 75°F). Water after planting seeds, and then daily with a gentle spray from your watering wand until the seeds are established. Germination is very slow and can last several weeks. Germination time is 2 to 6 weeks under ideal conditions. Ground cherry seeds have a low germination rate, so plant more than you need. When seedlings are well established, thin them so plants have at least 2 square feet (0.5 square m) to spread. Once properly settled in, physalis requires little care. It is preferable to only water in case of extreme heatwaves or prolonged dry spells. At the end of the growing season, to speed fruit ripening, it’s possible to pinch the head off stems to focus all the sap on the fruits.
