Typically, during the summer the plant blossoms and showcases a vibrant array of pink, rose, and red hued flowers. However, when the winter sets in, the plant goes dormant and sheds its leaves.
- Plant care: Caring for a desert rose plant is simple, but requires some sophistication. Like other succulents, it needs careful water management and plenty of sunlight. The plant also prefers consistently warm temperatures, which is why it is grown as a houseplant in many parts of the United States (except USDA zones 11 and 12).
- Light, Water, Soil: The plant thrives in full and direct sun light. The water requirements vary with the season and temperature. During the growing season (Summer), keep the soil moist but never saturated. Check the soil regularly and let it dry completely before watering. As the name suggests, the desert rose plant is naturally accustomed to dry, desert conditions, which means well-draining sandy or gravelly cactus soil. Soil pH should be neutral to acidic, preferably around 6.0.
