How to use it
Always use PPE when handling!
Always add acid to water, not water to acid!
For wood applications, use two cups of acid crystals per gallon of hot water. Preclean of any dirt, debris, etc. Spray or apply evenly across wood surface with a mop or bristle brush and let sit 20-30 min or until dry. Rinse deck with clean water.
What is it?
Oxalic acid, also known as ethanedioic acid, can be found naturally found in plants such as buckwheat and spinach, and is a crystalline powder.
How does it work?
When Oxalic Acid, with the chemical formula 3H2C2O4, comes into contact with rust, it displaces the iron oxide (rust) and forms iron oxalate and water. This is a water-soluble salt, which can then easily be rinsed away.
Wood cleaning and bleaching
Popular and effective for wood bleaching, including decking. It blasts through greying or weathered layers, revealing bright and beautiful wood beneath.

Cleaning Tools and MetalsPreclean with soap and water. Metal parts can be soaked in a solution of ten parts water to one part Oxalic acid. It may be necessary to soak for up to a day to remove all the rust. For more limited or direct applications, mix1 tablespoon oxalic acid into 1 cup of warm water. Apply the solution with a toothbrush, scrubbing lightly. |
Cleaning Concrete StainsMix one-half cup of the powder in a gallon of warm water and mop it on the stain. Let it sit and work for 5-10 minutes, keeping the stain wet, then scrub with a stiff-bristled brush and rinse with fresh water. |
Cleaning or Polishing Rocks and CrystalsOxalic is popularly used for cleaning certain minerals such as quartz, which is commonly contaminated by iron rust. Note, it is not to be used with every type of mineral so check with a professional if you’re unsure. Concentration of solution varies by quantity and degree of staining of the mineral. For light staining start with 2 tablespoons of oxalic acid in 1/2 gal water. For more power or a large number of crystals, increase up to 2 cups oxalic dissolved in 2 gal water. Note: Too much oxalic can cause quartz to yellow slightly. Place solution and minerals in a covered plastic bucket or container. Allow to sit for one to several days. It can be placed in the sun for heavy staining or speeding the process, but be careful to do this in a well-ventilated area or avoid breathing fumes that can be created by the heat. |
