Q: How long does it take to infuse whiskey?
Some flavors can take just about 24 hours, but it depends on which flavor you’re infusing with. The cinnamon and orange peel are more noticeable after 24 hours, while the wood chips take a bit longer, but also offer a much smoother flavor. In most cases, 48 hours is a good amount of time to expect a much-improved flavor.
Q: What is meant by “neutral alcohol”? Do you buy whiskey and infuse it with flavor?
Yep. Start with inexpensive whiskeys and save some of the original to compare to the flavored version. If you’re buying this as a gift for someone (or yourself) you can add in a USD 30 – 35 bottle of whiskey with the gift and make it a gift basket.
Q: What can be the alcohol base? Can you use rum instead of whiskey?
Yes. Rum would be good because some rums are aged in wood barrels, so the wood chip flavors pair well with it.
Q: Which ingredients can I use to infuse my whiskey?
All six ingredients which are included in the kit are great for whiskey. The cinnamon and orange add nice flavor, but be careful not to use too much cinnamon. The wood chips are great for not only adding flavor but also rapidly aging the whiskey to give it a smoother taste.
Q: How long can the ingredients last before they go bad?
At least a year. The ingredients are not really perishable, so could be much longer. It only takes a few days to age bourbon and whiskey with this infusion kit. Much more robust flavor comes from the aging process.
